At Apple’s media event Tuesday the company introduced the new iPod Hi-Fi speaker
system, as expected, as well as the new Intel-based Mac mini and high-end
leather iPod cases.
The iPod Hi-Fi “delivers breathtaking acoustic performance and room-filling
sound unlike any other speaker system designed for the iPod,” Apple said in a
press release. Apple CEO Steve Jobs called the Hi-Fi the reinvention of the home
stereo, billing the system as the “first iPod accessory that adds true
high-fidelity sound quality to the iPod.” The iPod Hi-Fi features an all-in-one
design that can be powered either from an international power outlet or by six
D-cell batteries. An integrated dock connector, remote control, and standard
auxiliary-in mini-jack round out the features.
Intel Mac mini
Apple’s new Mac mini is available in two
configurations, one sporting a 1.5GHz Core Solo processor for $599 and one with
a 1.67GHz Core Duo processor for $799. Both systems, which mimic the form-factor
of their predecessors, include iLife ’06, Front Row, and the Apple remote
control.
Although Apple has attempted to prevent
the Intel variant of its OS from installing on generic hardware, a
patch surfaced on the Internet Thursday that enables Mac OS X 10.4.5 to
work on non-Apple systems. The update fixed several Intel-related bugs, but also added code to stop those trying to install it on regular PCs.
A hacker named Maxxuss released the upgrade patch
and plans to create a full 10.4.5 installation routine. Those who
install Mac OS X on non-Apple hardware are unable to download updates
directly from the company, so these patches are the only way to take
advantage of the fixes made in each release. Maxxuss says some issues
still remain, such as problems with DVD playback and iTunes on systems
with AMD CPUs.

Apple Computer is looking to bring the Intel based Macs earlier then originally expected, 5 months early to be exact. AppleInsider has learned from âextremely reliable sourcesâ? that the iMac will be the first to sport the Intel processor that will debut at Appleâs annual Macworld Expo in San Francisco in January.
The recently updated iMac & PowerBook are both believed to be Appleâs best selling models, which is why Apple will also release an update to the PowerBook that will too have an Intel processor. According to AppleInsiderâs source, the PowerBook will be 20-25% thinner than what Apple is currently offering running the PowerPC G4.
While the iMacâs design will not change, aside from becoming thinner, from the last monthâs update, the Intel PowerBook is expected to pack a built in iSight in the same fashion as the current iMac G5 models.
Following Appleâs release of an Intel-based PoweBook, the Mac mini will be released around the Spring, followed by a revamped iBook sporting a new 13-inch widescreen and like the PowerBook & iMac, the iBook will also be thinner then its predecessors.

Think that Apple’s UI is a wee bit lacking? If so a developer came up with a patch that adds a little spice to the iPod menu system.
Now this is what i was waiting for.Time for 2nd iPOD.

The new iPod, in 30GB and 60GB flavors, sporting a wider screen and frame and coming in both white and black. The 30GB model will run you $299 and the 60GB will run you $399. Featuring a 2.5-inch color 320 x 240 pixel TFT display, the new iPods have all the features of the old color iPods with the added ability to watch both MPEG4 and H.264. They are advertising it as having 20 hours of battery life, but I doubt that’s while watching the video with the backlight on. It can also play video or photo slideshows on your television via the optional Dock. And… ready? It comes with a case! Nice!
