    Hello Shivprasad,

    I’m trying to follow your guide but I get a little stuck at very beginning.

    You say to install bootloader2 (step 3) before restoring the dvd. Doesn’t the partition get wiped out when it is restored? Do you need to install bootloader after it was restored (the 6 gb partition)?

    Thanks

    @Aurimas, You have to install bootloader first on both the partitions and then restore install iso to 6gb partition…

    I agree that it might be getting wiped out, but not sure of that, since its a guid partition scheme… there might be some flag somewhere which is being set….

    Nothing to do on my Latitude D630 (with Intel GM965 graphic card).
    Starting the HD boot loader works successful but after a blue screen, display turns off and I can’t see what’s going on. Neither with an external monitor, nor with fn F7.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi guys – First – shiv thanks a million for this – appreciate the hard work.

    A few problems I had:

    a) when you download the files and mount bootloader2.dmg the readme says to install Chameleon (easy) then “copy boot to both partitions”. The text in the readme file says:

    sudo -s
    cp. /Volumes/Snow Alternative/boot /Volumes/<>

    This doesn’t work for 2 reasons (I think but I may be wrong):

    1. cp with a period (cp.) is invalid syntax
    2. Snow Alternative has a space in it which Unix/OSX doesn’t tolerate.

    instead, I had to use:

    cp /Volumes/”Snow Alternative”/boot /Volumes/<>

    Even after this I had trouble and found I had to:

    cd /Volumes
    cd /”Snow Alternative”

    then cp boot /Volumes/<>

    Not sure if I missed something but this problematic. Also had to do a CHMOD 755 on boot after copying it.

    Next I found that you wrote “Boot your D630 with above USB disk and in Customize don’t select Bootloader2″. Once I got the installation to start I had no “Bootloader2″ option – there was Snow Bootloader but that’s it and it was selected by default. I left it checked as it was and didn’t change anything, but your instructions imply we need to change something here which is confusing. I didn’t select anything and it worked fine.

    Thanks again for this – I hoe these comments help any other Newbs trying to do this,

    Cheers,

    Thank you very much for your answer shiv.
    There’s still a little problem.
    How can I perform a full installation if when the process starts, after a blue screen all goes black and I can’t see what’s going on?
    Maybe I need to fix a retail Snow Leopard DVD with the above mentioned Intel drivers. But I don’t know how to do it.
    It’s very hard to install SL in “blind mode”.

    More suggestions?
    Thank you very much and Merry Christmas at all.

    Is it a problem if my small partition (6Gb) is the 2nd ?
    this is the result :

    boot0: error

    @Toonix The above error I had also faced when I had used bootloader which is included in the Snow Leopard Install Disc. You can deselect it using Customize before you begin installation.
    You should use the Bootloader2.dmg mentioned in the post. Now too if you install Bootloader2 on your above installed drive you should be able to boot.

    Hi Shiv, Great guide! Hope all is well.

    Just to gain confidence before i try your great method … I wanted to see if i can install ‘iDeneb v1.6 10.5.8 lite edition’ on my Dell D630.

    My story ….
    (1) First I couldn’t install iDeneb because I kept on getting Kernel panic within a few seconds in -v mode.
    (2) Then I removed the internal Dell D630′s hard drive and connected it to my friends laptop (which has a working OSX86). I selected Guid partition, straight installed ideneb without selecting any other fixes or drivers…but only those that were preselected by ideneb.
    (3) Connected the hard drive back to my Dell D630 and almost got to the welcome screen but the screen blacks out!
    (4) Connected the hard drive back to my friends laptop and removed the following extensions …

    AppleIntelGMAX3100.kext
    AppleIntelGMAX3100FB.kext
    AppleIntelGMAX3100GA.plugin
    AppleIntelGMAX3100GLDriver.bundle
    AppleIntelGMAX3100VADriver.bundle

    (5) Connected the hard drive back to my Dell D630 and got to the welcome screen, registration and arrived at the desktop. However now the PROBLEM is i haven’t got a graphics driver … Quartz Extreme is not supported etc and everything is stretched, applications like iworks 09 don’t work. Ive tried installing ideneb again and selected GMAX3500 fix … but again the screen blacks out. Perhaps i need to install the right graphics driver however which one?

    I wonder if you have the same video/graphics setup? Shiv how could i fix this issue? Any help would be appreciated?

    @Eric Yes I too noticed the lag…But since we are using NVkush.kext, i don’t think we can do much about it….don’t know if anyone working on bettering it…

    There is also reddish tint at lower end of screen…which I somehow managed to reduce by adjusting Color settings in Display panel.

    Also since using this NVkush.kext the laptop needs to be powered off manually….

    But I am okay with this, since been able to work on OS X… :)

    Will love to know solutions for above…

    hey shiv, use chameleon bootloader rc 3 or 4, and turn on the “graphics enabler” switch to yes in your boot.plist in your extras folder. it gets graphics working natively with apple’s nvdanv50hal kext. unfortunately, the graphics lag is still there :( . im thinking we just don’t have enough graphics memory, because the nvs140m which has 256 can work the graphics fine.

    then:

    downloaded Mac OS Snow Leopard Universal v. 3.6 (search in Google).
    mounted the iso downloaded file

    Gone into folder /System/Installation/Packages and started OSInstall.

    I’m back again.
    Finally I got a successful installation of Snow Leopard on my Dell D630.
    This is what I did:

    REMEMBER TO DOWNLOAD SHIV FILES FROM THE TOP OF THIS BLOG.

    Connect you notebook hard drive to your mac via a sata-usb interface (bought an hard drive box for that).
    start your Mac from the original Snow Leopard DVD.
    Install Snow Leopard to the USB hard Drive.
    When the installation is well performed iMac starts from the USB drive.
    OK.
    Now switch off.
    Unplug the usb drive.
    Start your mac from the internal drive.
    When SL is started plug the USB drive.
    First of all Install Chameleon RC4 to the USB Drive.

    Let’s work on the USB drive.
    If the graphic card of your notebook is Intel GM950 delete the following files from System/Library/Extension:
    AppleIntelGMAX3100.kext
    AppleIntelGMAX3100FB.kext
    AppleIntelGMAX3100GA.plugin
    AppleIntelGMAX3100GLDriver.bundle
    AppleIntelGMAX3100VADriver.bundle
    Put Shiv’s Extension folder into your USB drive into its Extra folder.
    Do not copy Shiv’s PlatformUUID.kext because Snow Leopard built a correct PlatformUUID.kext from the above installation process.
    OK. Let’s repair kext permission dragging the Extra/Extension folder into kext utility.
    Now copy contents of Kexts folder to /System/Library/Extensions
    Drag the /System/Library/Extensions folder into kext utility.
    It’s time to unplug the usb drive.
    Detach the sata2usb device and put the hard drive into your notebook.
    Start Dell D630.
    Snow Leopard starts but is not into full potential mode.
    For Intel graphics use Shiv suggested drivers on top of this blog (read some answers before).
    Install drivers.
    Restart Snow leopard with this kind of flags:
    -v arch=i386
    Start Disk Utillity and Repair Permission.
    From now start everytime SnowLeopard using the above flags (-v arch=i386) and finally you got Snow Leopard working out of the box.
    Only wifi is not implemented.
    Have fun!!!

    THANKS TO SHIV FOR HIS SUPPORT. WITHOUT YOUR AID I COULDN’T GET IN TOUCH WITH SNOW LEOPARD’S WORLD INTO MY DELL.

    THANKS A LOT SHIV. YOU’RE THE BEST.

    Hi all
    I wrote a commentary yesterday but it’s missing.
    Anyway the commentary said that I installed MacOs following your guide and in the end I installed 10.6.3 update and lost sound, usb support, bluetooth…
    Finally, I decided to install again, and I installed the 10.6.2 combo update. The system works perfectly now. Not without troubles, as after the 10.6.2 update I had a kernel panic that didn’t let me boot my system…
    I want to comment the way I used to install. I think it could be interesting for those that do not have access to a real Mac like me.
    What I did was install SL on a Physical hard disk using VMWare. After the install, I followed the mialemat manual, and ended with a fully functional SL.
    If someone is interested in more details about how to install SL in a physical disk with Vmware, please ask. If wou google it, there is a guide to install in Vmware, the basics are the same, changing the virtual disk with a physical one.
    What I was unable to do was a dual boot with Windows 7 and SL. I ended using 2 hard drives. One for Windows, one for SL. I have installed Windows and SL about 10 times in the last 2 days… And it was enough for me… The next thing I want to do is create a ghost of SL and try to update to 10.6.3 (when someone publishes a guide, as I am a newbie…)
    And I also would like to learn how chameleon works, as I think that was my problem trying to dual boot Windows 7 and SL… If someone has any url for me to learn about it…

    To get USB working remove from com.apple.Boot.plist (file is on Extra folder) the following flags:

    arch=i386 pmIncrement=1 EHCIacquire=Yes UHCIreset=Yes ForceWake=Yes Rescan=Yes

    with this one

    arch=x86

    Save and repair permissions with Kext Utility.

    Try to restart in verbose mode to verify everything is working as expected.

    for JulKeZ:
    On my Dell I got a succesful installation of SL (10.6.3) + Windows XP (Pro + SP3) + Windows 7 (Ultimate).
    To do this you need to install SL on a MBR partition not on a GUID Installation. So I had to modify my SL Installation Disk thanks to google.
    After that Partition in 3 parts your Hard Disk.
    Install Windows 7, then Windows XP after all SL.
    Reboot using Empire EFI v. 1.085 (http://prasys.co.cc/2010/01/empire-efi-v-1-085-is-out/) and start again from Windows 7.
    Set with diskpart all partition ad active and system.
    Install Chameleon and finally you’ll get everything working.

    The simplest way to get a successful double or triple boot without Chameleon it is called EasyBCD (http://neosmart.net/dl.php?id=1).

    Have fun.

    Download DSDTSE from Ev0x86Team and edit your DSDT file (it would be in the Extra folder).

    Search for HPET section and change things as following:

    Device (HPET)
    {
    Name (_HID, EisaId (“PNP0103″))
    Name (ATT3, ResourceTemplate ()
    {
    IRQNoFlags ()
    {2}
    IRQNoFlags ()
    {8}
    IRQNoFlags ()
    {11}
    IRQNoFlags ()
    {15}
    Memory32Fixed (ReadWrite,
    0xFED00000, // Address Base
    0×00000400, // Address Length
    )
    })

    Recompile and repair permission with Kext Utility.

    Now your USB port are working as ever!!!!

    @cnone.
    I’m agree with you. If you have a real Mac why bother to make a hackintosh?
    My guide is only a demonstration that SL can be installed on a notebook but, of course I got a real Mac and I prefer it for a lot of reasons.

    To build a hackintosh without a mac maybe is it possible with vmware for windows but require more time and more capabilities than with a real mac.

    If you want to install SL on a AMD machine you need a kernel patch (have a look at http://www.kext.com).

    Also, there a lot of modded retail version but I don’t like to download Snow Leopard from Internet because if you want Apple lives and continue to give us the dream of a wonderful and powerful O.S. we all need to buy original products.

    I’m sorry with Shiv because this is not my blog and I’m getting his space without his permission.
    So, for the future, no more comments from me.
    Only updates to the guide if appreciated.

    Sorry Shiv and you all.

    The reason I wanted a Hackintosh is because I had a work laptop which was Dell and I was using Ubuntu on it. I was fine with Ubuntu but preferred OS X since it was both closer to *nix and awesome eye candy.

    And I didn’t wanted to keep switching context [keyboard shortcuts etc] between Ubuntu and OS X.

    Install and repair permissions with kext utility.

    Pay attention. No Sound!

    Would anyone happend to have a completed (with all the hack in place) DSDT for a D830 2.6HHZ (T9500) and Nvidia Quadra NVS 140M Graphics?

    ALl of the DSDT I have tried don’t work well at all.

    The only DSDT I have found to work on the Dell D830 is this NON CPU SPecific DSDT for the Dell XPS M1330. It has a 8400M graphics card but I read that both of these graphics cards are basically the same as the Nvidia 7300GT chipset.

    The only thing not working using the DSDT from an M1330 is sleep. I have restart, shutdown, speed step, USB working and totally stable system. Just the sleep is the issue and I really don’t know if a DSDT specific for the D830 will make sleep work or not anyhow?

    I’m managing to get to the restore stage but then hit problems. Disk Utility is telling me it can’t Restore. I’m working off a disk image of 10.6 as my G4′s dvd drive is a source of evil and cruelty (another reason to be moving on)

    I’m also hoping I won’t need an Intel Mac to do this successfully. Part of attempting this is to avoid the endless costs of running a Mac that inevitably begins to fail after a matter of months.

    After years of pulling Macs apart to replace dead HD’s etc. pulling the drive from the Dell was so easy it was funny!

    hey shiv, use chameleon bootloader rc 3 or 4, and turn on the “graphics enabler” switch to yes in your boot.plist in your extras folder. it gets graphics working natively with apple’s nvdanv50hal kext. unfortunately, the graphics lag is still there . im thinking we just don’t have enough graphics memory, because the nvs140m which has 256 can work the graphics fine.

    did u get any solution for that problem i am searching the solution for this problem from 1 year, the lag is mainly due to low clock of gpu but we need latest graphic drivers to fix this one .3yrs i got the same problem in windows vista i think but afterwards this problem was fixed in windows 7 later wid latest graphic drivers..
    expt this lagg and shutdown everything is working fine…

    I together with my guys have been checking out the best guides from your web blog then then got a horrible feeling I never thanked the web blog owner for them. Those women appeared to be for this reason warmed to study all of them and have now seriously been using those things. Appreciation for actually being quite accommodating and then for picking varieties of useful ideas most people are really desperate to learn about. Our honest regret for not saying thanks to you earlier.
